The Caux Interpreters Programme is an opportunity for final year interpreting students, interpreters who have just graduated or young professionals to practise their skills in a real conference setting working together with experienced interpreters. The conferences consist of plenary sessions with up to 400 participants from around the world, podium discussions, theatre performances, as well as seminars, workshops and small group meetings. All of these sessions are conducted in a multilingual environment and enabled through the mediation of interpreters. In the plenary sessions, simultaneous interpreting is provided, sometimes through relay. During workshops and other sessions, interpreters also provide liaison, whispered or consecutive interpreting as required. For more detailed information about the conferences, please click here. - Simultaneous interpreting during plenary sessions, panel discussions, larger workshops, possibly evening events;
- Consecutive interpreting and/or chuchotage in discussion groups, committees, and smaller workshops;
- Participation in the pre-conference briefing with chef d'équipe and daily briefings with conference organizers and/or daily speakers; de-briefing with chef d'équipe at the end of conference;
- Possibly, small translation jobs (daily programme etc.);
- Possibly, interpreting from a screen during meetings/events;
- Interpreters have their own office; computers, Internet (also wireless) and dictionaries are available;

- Interpreting requirements: Final year of interpreting studies, advanced level in simultaneous interpreting.
- Sound general education: Politics, International Relations, Economy, Cultures, World Religions, Philosophy, etc. (broad international environment; in general, the speeches are not particularly technical, but cover a wide variety of topics and idioms; various accents must be expected);
- English (at least as C language in all language combinations) compulsory;
- Voluntary, pro bono placement, board and lodging (twin bed bedrooms) are provided;
- No fixed working hours but up to six hours a day;
- Whenever possible, paired teams in the booths consist of one more experienced interpreter who might have been to Caux before and one less experienced interpreter/final-year student;
- Interpreters should be able to use different interpreting techniques (simultaneous, consecutive, chuchotage etc. as required depending on group setting and technical conditions);
- Ideally, you arrive on the day before the official interpreting assignment starts and leave one day after it ends.
