We’re celebrating diversity, with a variety evening in the Great Hall. It marks the last evening of this summer’s conferences. A Pacific Island ambassador sings on stage with a small group, after a band of Africans with a dance. Tomorrow evening, there’ll be a fondue for those left in the house, but I’ll be on my way home.
Last night, I was sitting in a meeting when my ‘bip’ went with a fire alarm. A healthy sprint through the house to the far end of one of the corridors, adrenalin pumping, and we had another inter-cultural encounter as we hammered on the door with a smoke alarm sign above it. A young lady was enjoying a ‘smoke bath’ with an incense burner. It was hard to see across the room! We may need to review the ‘no smoking’ sign in the rooms, and add something about 'no burning incense'.
