A World Assembly
![]() |
Each summer the Caux assembly draws between 1400 and 2000 people of every generation, background and religious outlook.
Those who take part include:
- young people eager to shape the world they will inhabit;
- industrialists and trade unionists concerned that economic leaders act responsibly and ethically;
- Africans, Asians and Europeans determined to root out corruption;
- intellectuals from Eastern Europe in search of values for democracy;
- opposing leaders in divided countries who are working for peace;
- community leaders from different ethnic backgrounds seeking justice in multiracial societies.
Many citizens, attracted by the breadth of the Caux conferences, come seeking a solution to a particular problem and to take part in the practical running of the centre.
A Place of reflection
The summer programme consists of a continuous series of sessions dealing with specific subjects.
Caux offers each person who comes the chance to consider their particular calling in the light of world needs and to discover what the philosopher Gabriel Marcel defined as 'the link between the intimate and the global'.
The Caux sessions concentrate on sharing experience rather than theory: on the spiritual journey of the individual or on initiatives which have contributed to political or social change.
Caux’s beautiful situation above the Lake of Geneva offers an ideal environment for reflection.
A Meeting Place

Caux makes it possible for individuals and groups to meet in circumstances which might not otherwise be possible. The conditions of fruitful dialogue can be established, removed from economic, political and media pressures.
The day’s programme allows for discussion at every level, in plenary sessions, smaller meetings, conversations over meals and individual talks.
Caux is also a resource for governments and other bodies who want to bring people together for purposes of reflection or conciliation.
A focus of creativity
The Caux theatre has seen the creation of many stage productions. The building is also well suited to hold concerts and exhibitions.
A community life

Everyone taking part in the conference is invited to be involved in the practical work of the house. This enables ordinary citizens and leaders to mingle on an equal footing and serve one another.
The teams taking on the different household tasks meet each day for discussion, giving everyone a chance to express themselves.
Caux does not specialise in formal resolutions but rather in creating a new spirit. What is said from the platform is not always what is most important. Some truth emerging from a conversation or in listening to someone’s personal story may help a participant rethink their life or resolve to bring change to a situation.
