Short explanations to the five different conferences
(more detailed information available by February 2009)
9 – 15 July 2009: Learning to Live in a Multicultural World
Migration from poverty, war or ecological disaster is a reality we all need to learn to live with. Host communities and diasporas will have to discover new ways of relating to each other – based on real listening and mutual appreciation.
The conference will address the concerns of those who are already working to build trust and respect across cultural divides and of those who want to become more involved, but wonder where and how. During interactive discussions, all conference participants will have a chance to contribute their perspectives on how a sense of belonging can be owned by everybody. This session is twinned with the one described below; some of their activities will be in common.
9 – 15 July 2009: Leading Change for a Sustainable World
How often do we hear that world poverty, war, corruption or gross degradation of the natural environment are scandals that should be stopped? And what are ‘they’ doing about it? This attitude, we can see, does not bring about change or hope. True, the isolated individual can do little. But who says he or she should remain isolated?
This session is a time for skill-building, reflection and discernment for people who want to invest time in concrete change projects around the world.
In these days, participants from many different countries will have the opportunity to reflect on their own lives and their life priorities and to develop a greater awareness of how to tackle important issues in the world where action is needed. The worldwide activities of Initiatives of Change and other organizations will be presented and discussed. This session will be hosted by young professionals and students. It will be twinned with the one described above; some of their activities will be in common.
17 – 22 July 2009: Caux Forum for Human Security
The second annual Caux Forum for Human Security will again bring together those working for peace and human security at all levels and from varied sectors around the world.
Alongside senior diplomats and UN officials, business and cultural leaders, participants will include those doing effective work at the grass roots, as well as media personalities and heads of civil society organizations. The purpose is to create an environment where all can learn from one another, and fresh impulses and strategies for addressing basic human needs can emerge. For more details, see: www.cauxforum.net
Attendance by personal invitation only – for reasons of space availability
24 – 29 July 2009: Trust and Integrity in the Global Economy – a people-focused approach to globalization
We face difficult challenges in the global economy which at times seem hard to overcome; food shortages, crises in financial systems, the impact of climate change and rising energy costs are only a few. TIGE believes that sustainable solutions will be led by nothing short of breakthrough thinking; a dynamic way of leading and of being, with trust and integrity at the core.
The TIGE conference invites young professionals, business school students, social entrepreneurs, business leaders, farmers, media professionals, academics, NGOs, and all those who have a sense of concern to be part of a uniquely collaborative conference that builds a people-focused, virtue-based, and proactive approach to the problems confronting us. 9 – 15 August 2009: Tools for Change – Learning to be Peacemakers
In today’s troubled world marked by conflict and suspicion of ‘the other’, this conference is for those with a passion to be peacemakers and trust-builders. This challenging week of personal development and capacity building explores alternatives to violence as methodologies for change. The curriculum examines the core principles and practices of Initiatives of Change, drawing on diverse cultural and faith perspectives. It prepares individuals and teams to bridge divisions in their home communities. An experienced international faculty will lead interactive courses in conflict transformation, honest conversation, skills for listening and collaboration, as well as case studies of courageous peacemakers.
