Although India has one of the strongest economies in the world, the number of poor people begging on the streets is staggering. This is due to large numbers of people migrating from Indian villages to major cities with the hopes of finding jobs. When they cannot find a job, they are forced to beg.
This documentary, "Banking on Change;" is the story of one man who has set out to change the economics in the Indian villages. JS Parthiban is the manager of a bank in a Southern village in India. He encourages people to open bank accounts and to start saving money. Through micro-loans, he enables villagers to start small businesses that will not only help their families, but their communities as well.
